The founder of the Coast’s famous Narara Ecovillage will address a meeting of the Peninsula Residents Association (PRA) this coming Tuesday, November 15.
The PRA is holding the public meeting to discuss what residents can do to enhance and protect the liveabiliity of their neighbourhoods.
Guest speaker, Lyndall Parris, founder of Narara Ecovillage, will talk about the ways the ecovillage protects liveability within its neighbourhood.
The 64 hectare Narara Ecovillage is an intergenerational residential community bordered on three sides by Strickland State Forest.
The idea began in the 1990s when Ms Parris began to speak in public about her dream of community living.
“Imagine a group of people of all ages, living sustainably as a thriving community in a contemporary development near Sydney – having fun, living lightly, being connected…,” the website says.
About 12 hectares of the site is zoned for residential development with another 12 hectares available for agriculture and community gardens.
The remaining hectares of native forest and bushland are dedicated to conservation.
The site, bought by the village in 2013, was the home of the Gosford Horticultural Institute for about 100 years and before that, it had a rich indigenous history, the website says.
The land began to take shape as an ecovillage when it received its subdivision certificate in 2018 allowing building to start.
The meeting will hear examples from around the world of how residents have got together to make their neighbourhoods better places to live.
The Woy Woy peninsula based PRA believes current planning regulations are not adequate to protect the Peninsula’s local neighbourhoods, but that there are a number of things residents can do.
“As with previous public meetings organised by the association, residents will have the opportunity to record their views about what makes a liveable neighbourhood and to make suggestions about the ways that Peninsula residents might improve their own neighbourhoods,” a spokesperson said.
Both members and non members are welcome to attend this free public meeting.
It will be held in the Show Room of the Everglades Country Club, Woy Woy and starts at 7pm on Tuesday November 15.
Both the PRA and the Narara Ecovillage have websites if you’re interested in knowing more.
