Mayor Jane Smith says it is time to reconsider the proposed Warnervale airport.
She will ask her fellow Councillors to agree at this Monday night’s council meeting (October 23) to suspend work until Council’s CEO can bring a report to the Councillors by late November.
She also wants information about the proposal made public – put on the website – and if some information can’t be made public, she wants to know why.
The CEO is to provide a report on the masterplan prior to the November 27 council meeting.
Mayor Smith notes that council is continuing to spend money on the site despite State Government key planning documents excluding an airport of any description in that area.
She says it is time to reconsider the future direction of the site in consultation with the community.
In 1996, following community concerns about development of Warnervale Airport, the NSW Parliament passed a Warnervale Airport Restrictions Act to restrict development.
Despite this, in May 2015, the former Wyong Council started planning a regional airport at the site but the master plan has never been on public exhibition.
The site is at the upper catchment of Porters Creek Wetland, the largest freshwater wetland on the Central Coast.
Councillors will vote on the matter this Monday night.
